Inspired by our desire to try new cheeses, we purchased a wedge of Brie. Some friends visiting from Pittsburgh were excited to have baked brie as an appetizer for dinner that night. A wedge of brie, coupled with a fantastic berry-spiced red-wine vinaigrette and some pastry dough was all that was needed for this delicious appetizer.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees
  2. Thaw the frozen pastry dough for 30 to 45 minutes
  3. With a sprinkle of flour, roll the dough out on a flat surface such that it’s thin and evenly spread out using a rolling pin
  4. Cut the brie length-wise, and spread blackberry preserves on both halves
  5. Crush the almonds and spread them liberally, and place the other half on top
  6. Optionally, you can sprinkle spiced red-wine vinaigrette at this stage. We got a great berry-spiced one from Boston Olive Oil company
  7. Place the brie on the dough and fold. With remaining dough, you can decorate the wedge or wheel
  8. Lightly brush with the egg wash all sides and bake for 45 minutes, until top starts to get golden brown
  9. Serve with crackers, grapes, sliced baguette
